Fume hoods - more precise: hoods for working with aggressive media at high temperatures - are used when greater heat volumes are released, e.g. when fuming acids, or when working with aggressive chemicals.

Table exhaust hoods are used to exhaust minor dangerous pollutants, which could be released for example during refilling. Because they are covered from three sides, they provide a quite good exhaust performance. Table exhaust hoods are not a replacement for laboratory hoods, because they are not ventilation-certified.
