Use:

Draw a water repellant circle around the specimen which has been attached to the slide and cleaned using xylene, ethanol, etc. Let dry for 1 – 2 minutes, then apply the stain, which will not penetrate beyond the circle. Use xylene to remove the marking, which is not water soluble.

Advantages:

Less stain consumption. Clean staining. Easy to use.
